Made time for a movie this Super Bowl Weekend and went to see The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldham. Really liked this one a lot. Great story, great photography, and Oldham is back as the most evil person on Earth. This is a great movie with a very special "twist" that you won't see coming. Highly recommend this.

I really liked The Lovely Bones, but can't explain why. I have seen it twice in the cinema and today I am going to see "Legion" only because everyone says it is more funny than scary.

Very Happy

Saw Legion today and everyone is right about this one. It isn't a bad movie, unless you are expecting to be scared out of your shorts. It is pretty funny, for all the wrong reasons, and the special effects are just a tad short of being good. Not a waste of money, or time, but just a whole lot of fun.

Well, saw The Lovely Bones...and yeah, same as you Junkie - I liked it for reasons I don't think I could explain.
Good pacing and I really liked Tucci's performance...the scene in the shelter with Suzie was quite uncomfortable.

I noticed a couple of things: Peter Jackson in the film shop. Playing with a video camera. When Suzie is in the book shop in the mall, there is a large disaply stand for the LOTR trilogy.

Peter Jackson is the modern day version of Hitchcock. He likes to make appearances in his movies. You need to look hard, but he has a cameo in each of the LOTR movies. They are all very brief, but it is cool to search for them.

Saw Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson, and was totally blown away by his character. This is not a stale movie in any way, and I couldn't believe that is been almost eight years since Gibson was in a movie.

Like this one a lot, and it shows that Mel Gibson still has the chops, and will be around for a lot longer than most of thought.

Very Happy

Yeh, I spotted him in Fellowship and Return of the King...can't remember seeing him in Two Towers.

I read The Lovely Bones and am apprehensive about seeing the movie. The book is great, but it is not the cat and mouse story as the trailer implies. I'll still give it a watch when it's released. I also heard that the first chapter is completely omitted from the movie.

The film isn't really a cat and mouse affair either...the clips shown in the trailer are namely from a montage. I expect to draw in a larger male audience expecting a tense thriller.

The story mainly focus' on the fathers obsession to track down the killer, and the strain it puts on the family. I myself haven't read the book, but a friend of mine has but still enjoyed the film.

My son-in-law and I went to cinema today and saw The Crazies.

Okay hang on to your hats, I am going to admit something that will sound like I am not the same Junkie anymore.

This film is a remake of a 1973 George A. Romero directed film. I liked this one better than the original. The characters were better developed, and the story was a lot deeper, and compared to the '73 film, the special effects were heads above it.

Timothy Olyphant is amazing in the film. I thought for sure he would be typecast after his stint on HBO's "Deadwood".

This one hell of a Horror film. It was sorta like combining "28 days" and 28 weeks later" into one film with a quick little twist at the end.

Very Happy

OK...so I had a free movie ticket and went to see Shutter Island last night. DiCaprio and Scorcesse haven't let me down yet and they still haven't. While I found this film to be predictable (I guess it has alot to do with my training), it didn't take away from the overall enjoyment. At 2 hours and 17 minutes, the film flies by. The "twist" ending didn't catch me by surprise as I figured out what was going on near the middle of the film. What did surprise me was the circumstances that led up the the outcome. Looking back at the film, clues are laid out that made sense at the end. Great flick and will definitely pick up when released on blu ray.

OK....so Junkie you will be thrilled to know that I went to see AVATAR today on IMAX. As I predicted, I loved it. The visuals are (as I knew) amazing, visually stunning....(add your own adjectives here) and the 3D is flawless....

But, as awesome as the film was the story was a bit mediocre and I mean that in the best sense of the word. The problem was that I felt I had seen this story before. It was done in The Last Samurai and Dances with Wolves (both fantastic movies that I also love).

Please don't take this as me not liking the movie...far from it. I absolute loved it and will add to my collection next month. I commend Cameron on his vision because....DAMN. Who really thinks this shit up. The world of Pandora is just bizarre.
